Affirmation: Sometimes following your joy guides you in the direction to be there in any way that you can to help heal someone’s life. Life is miraculous, life is beautiful. I choose life!
You know I wrote that affirmation, but I’m more than sure it was Durek who taught me that.
My friend, my soul brother, Durek Verrett (Shaman Durek) needs a kidney transplant. His sister, Angelina Verrett-Byrne is donating her kidney. Kidney transplants now days are a very successful, somewhat simple procedure. It’s still major surgery however. With Durek, it’s a bit more complicated so after surgery he will actually be quaranteened for some time. Rather then go into detail about the complexities of Durek’s surgery I encourage you to watch the video where he explains it all.
Due to the extensive costs of surgery and recovery time, Durek and his family need help financially. It would be so much appreciated if you could donate to his cause. Every dollar counts. If everyone out there could spare a dollar they would reach their goal.
Know this…. When you donate money to this cause, when you press that submit button, you will have contributed directly to saving someone’s life. The life of a very special person to me. Not only that, Durek helps, heals and saves so many people on a daily basis. So a dollar to his life is really a dollar compounded with interest because saving him means you save so many more.
My friend Durek Verrett is a healer. He has been as long as I’ve known him. I remember our first meeting. It was in San Francisco at Squat and Gobble on Haight Street. We were there with Jason Peacock (J-Bird of Sunset/Pacific Sound) and Manny (DJ M3 Green Gorilla/Black Pancake Records/Monarch). That was back in 2001. From there it was faerie soul sister-shaman soul brother love at first sight. Kindered spirits are we for sure!
I can’t tell you how many Sunset Parties we spent dancing in front of the DJ booth to Galen, Solar, J-Bird, Sean Murray, M3, Monty Luke, Joshua Iz, John Howard, Jeno and the many, many, many amazing DJ’s that graced the tables at Sunset. Definitely more than I can count. From the dance floor we went to ceremony where we’d collaborate on what the annual Saturday ceremony for the Sunset Campout in Willits would be, to the altars where we’d sometimes dispute over the items I was going to place on it. I always got my way btw… hehehe.
Then Durek moved to LA. I followed shortly thereafter. We’d already talked for years about how he was going to take his healing practise to the next level and he felt LA was the place for it to prosper. And it certainly did. In the meantime, I was continuing to work on my own career. Durek was always there supporting and encouraging me along the way. Honestly, I would not be the Faerie I am today without his guidance. He’s my Merlin.
Then one day, life took a drastic turn and Durek ended up in the hospital. This was about 8 years ago. It was seriously touch and go. The doctors pronounced him dead more than once but he kept reviving himself. I remember walking into his room in ICU and it looked so blank and empty, and he looked so frail. It was still soon after he was first admitted, and all I could think was… “oh my goodness, he’s forgetting who he is.” Maybe that was the case or maybe it was just my shock but it was my reality for a moment. Soon after that, so much love came pouring in. And by that I mean people. People came from everywhere. They sent emails of love and encouragement, and I read them all to him. So many people came actually that his sister Angelina had to create a waiting list just to see him. Thank goodness I was put on the VIP list! The nurses even kept asking us who he was because they thought for sure he must have been a rock star with so many people stopping by. But that’s honestly how many people he had already helped at that time. He had already poured out that much love to so many people and they wanted to return it. Again, that was 8 years ago.
In the last 8 years, Durek has had to be on hemodialysis. It saves his life on daily basis but he needs to get off of it. His partner Hank Greenberg has been there by his side ever since. In addition to the dialysis, Durek has been in and out of the hospital and has had to have multiple surgeries. He almost died again last year due to an anerysm. Hank has been there every step of the way. Words can not express the love and gratitude I have for Hank. It is truely an honor to know him.
Watching Durek evolve into the Shaman Durek he is today has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. He has given me hope, faith, love, encouragement and COURAGE! I will always continue to pursue my dreams because of him. Durek has touched and healed the lives of so many people, and I know he is destined to help so many more.
So please, if you could take a moment and donate to Durek. I’d be forever in your gratitude. You can donate here at Operation Get Shaman Durek A Kidney until March 31st.
